St Joseph’s Connacht Senior Champions 1986 Reunion

The victorious St. Joseph`s Marist Convent Connacht Senior C Champions of 1986 are holding a reunion of that all conquering team in Kd`s Bar on Tuesday December 27th with the ball being thrown in so to speak @6.30pm.

It is hoped to reunite as many members of the panel as possible for what we hope will be a good night of memories and nostalgia as lads who played and were part of the panel come together and reflect on how time has flown in the interim. The occasion will be also be a poignant one as two of that successful team are gone to their eternal rest with Michael Byrnes and Michael Haran having passed away so sadly well  before their time. Their names and talents have never lessened as they were key members of the team that brought such joy and happiness to the school and community as a whole on that great day in May 1986. Hopefully they will be represented by some family member or other and they will be made feel most welcome as it is hoped the lads who made such a great contribution to the success will make the effort come along and renew acquaintances with teammates and school friends from a bygone era. The successful manager of the day Philip O`Gorman it is hoped will also be in attendance and for the record the team and panel that took to the pitch on that famous day in May were as follows : Tommy Gavaghan, Michael Byrnes (r.i.p.) Michael Haran (r.i.p) James Brett, David Duffy, Christy Duffy, Seamus Gallagher, Sean McCormack, Shane Murphy, Seamus Beirne, Clement Reilly (capt.), Alan Moran,  Stephen Healy, Sean Jordan, Eddie McCarthy while the subs (from what I can remember) were Michael Horkan, Marty Fleming and Colman Duffy with the others a matter of some speculation which I hope to put to bed in next week`s column. There will be  tea and refreshments served on what we hope will be a memorable evening and again more updates in the coming weeks.
