It was a proud occasion for Charlestown Sarsfields GAA to host the Connacht GAA FBD League Round 1 fixture between Mayo and Sligo at Fr. O’Hara Park.
The match marked the return of inter-county football to Charlestown for the first time since the 2009 National League clash with Westmeath, making it a significant milestone for the club. Supporters were treated to an exciting local derby, with a large crowd in attendance despite challenging cold conditions.
The club was delighted to receive very positive feedback from players, officials, and supporters alike, particularly regarding the quality of the pitch and facilities at this time of year. Such feedback is a testament to the continued investment and care shown in the development of our grounds.
A sincere thank you is extended to the many club volunteers, both young and old, whose dedication and hard work made the occasion possible. From preparation in the days leading up to the match to roles on the day itself — including parking, ticket sales, PA duties, shop staffing, and more — their efforts were exceptional.
This event was a fantastic showcase of Charlestown Sarsfields GAA and the strong community spirit that the club is proud to represent.
