Charlestown u16s made it through to the county semi final on Sunday morning as they made it two wins from two in the second round of the championship after coming out on top on a winning score margin of 2-17 to 2-12 against Crossmolina Deelrovers.
The game was extremely scrappy as Charlestown were offered a stiff test in the form of a very physical Crossmolina team yet began with Paul Towey and Patrick Goldrick looking sharp as ever slotting over two scores each in the opening minutes of the game. However the young sarsfields failed to exert their possession dominance on the scoreboard as Crossmolina stole two goals against the run of play.
Charlestown recovered well however as Paul Towey notched over two more frees as a result of two poor challenges which seen the Crossmolina centre back receiving two yellows as he took his marching orders on 20 minutes. Sarsfields led at the break on a score line of 1-10 to 2-5.
The second half began well for Charlestown as Conor O’Toole began to get a grip at midfield as Charlestown opened up a 7 point lead with some good approach play from Ruairi Cullen and Matthew Lenehen combined. The second half lost much of its momentum from there on as both teams made a considerable amount of errors as the young men from Charlestown closed out the game on a final score of 2-17 to 2-12.
Next up for the Sarsfields in Round3 is Hollymount/Carramore which will decide who wins the group.
