Our Senior men have been pitted against Galway side Mountbellew/Moylough in this years Leo Kenny Cup Final, which is up for decision this Saturday 9th July in McHale Park, with a throw in time of 1:30pm.
This years final will be a curtain raiser to the Mayo v Fermanagh All Ireland Football Championship Qualifier, which is a fitting reward for our lads, who have overcome the challenges of Sligo senior champions St Marys, near neighbours Tourlestrane (also of Sligo) and Roscommon side Elphin on the way to this years final.
Our club has a strong affiliation with this competition, and also competed in the 2005 decider. We are looking to make amends for defeat that day to a Ballina Stevenites club who were at the time riding the crest of a wave and on the back of county and provincial success. Some of our squad from that day have served the test of time well it most be said, Aidan Higgins, Kevin Deignan and Martin Mulvaney to name just three, who will again have a say in the outcome this Saturday. Their experience, with the blend of some youthful exuberance in the squad, will serve us well Im sure!
We invite all club supporters, members and followers to come support the lads on the day, so get the green and white (as well as the green and red) out this Saturday in Castlebar! 🙂
Here’s hoping for some silverware making its way back home to the town!
