The all conquering St Joseph`s Marist Convent Connacht Colleges C Champions of 1986 are hoping to have a thirty year reunion of that superb team which captured the Connacht Colleges Senior C Title in great style when they defeated a star studded Glenamaddy in thrilling encounter played at St. Coleman`s College, Claremorris on a never to be forgotten wet Wednesday afternoon in mid-May. This was the first time the school had won such a prestigious title in their long and illustrious history and it was the culmination of years of hard work and effort which all came together on that fabulous afternoon in May of 1986 . There have mumblings and whispers of a reunion to bring together a team that inevitably went their separate ways in the years and decades that have passed and it is fervently hoped to bring together as many of that team and panel as possible for a get together with the period between Christmas and New Year being mooted. Any of the team who might read this column (and maybe big fans of it in the process!!!) are asked to get in touch with yours truly (087-6440569) or log onto www.charlestowngaa.com or the Charlestown Sarsfields Facebook page which will contain regular updates and bulletins on this intended reunion. A date and venue for the occasion has yet to be confirmed and hopefully the successful manager of the team Philip O’Gorman (the Jim Gavin of his time) will also be available where we can share anecdotes and swap stories of a journey that started off with a right good thrashing of now closed Banada Abbey in round one . The word is out and again don`t hesitate to get in touch with the full team and panel that took to the field on that day that still burns brightly in the membrane to be published in next week’s issue. Stephen Healy.
