Its Friday lunchtime, and by now excitement is I’m sure at absolute fever pitch in and around the Tubbercurry area and its neighbouring parishes!
Truth be told, excitement is even spilling over the border to us here in Charlestown as it is one of our very own who will lead the St Attracta’s lads into battle tomorrow, in the Connacht GAA Post Primary School Senior A Championship Final. It promises to be an epic encounter!
Paul Towey, son of Malachy and Joan, Cloonlairn, quoted by many as been “an inspirational captain”, is one of the Sarsfields brightest prospects, and if the Sligo school are to prevail tomorrow, his incisive runs, clever link-play, nerves of steel and never say die attitude will all be needed. All of us at Charlestown Sarsfield’s look forward to cheering him on, and wish him and his teammates the absolute best!
Whoever wins the Connacht GAA Post Primary School Senior A Cup tomorrow, it will result in a new name being etched on the famous Aonghus Murphy Memorial Cup as neither Rice College or St Attracta’s have ever won the biggest prize in Connacht Colleges Football. St Attracta’s have been knocking on the door for the last number of years, having been beaten in three of the last four finals so they will be thinking that this year is finally their turn. Rice College will be confident they can climb the steps themselves in what will be the first ever Senior A Championship Final in the schools history.
The winners of the Connacht Final will progress to the All Ireland Semi Final against the Leinster Champions on the 24th of March, with a place in the final of the Hogan Cup in Croke Park at stake, which will take place on the 7th of April.
Croker would certainly be a fitting stage for Paul, but one step at a time!! 🙂
Good Luck to him and the lads!
