Charlestown Sarsfields under-16 team resumed their winning aways when they defeated Eastern Gaels in the East Mayo Under-16 B Semi-final on a scoreline of 0-13 to 0-9 in a tight encounter played at Fr O`Hara Park recently.
The Sarsfields victory was all the more commendable as it came just forty eight hours after they were defeated by Ballinrobe in the county under-16 B Championship semi-final .
The green and white lads fronted up and faced down the challenge of the Gaels with admirable determination and spirit. They had to be at their best to see off a redoubtable and fired up Gaels side who sensed there might be some vulnerability in the Sarsfields following their championship defeat.
While not at their best the green and white had enough in the tank to eke out a victory that owed a lot to their tenacity, strength of character and sheer will to win and these qualities they displayed in abundance as they got the job done with plenty to improve on ahead of the final and a clash with as of yet unknown opponents.
Tremendous credit goes to the whole team, panel and management for having the guts to get back on the horse and go again and this is a team with serious resolve and steel and one who deserve success as they have invested so much since the start of the season. Whether they get it or not remains to be seen but they will not go down without one hell of a fight and will bring huge desire and will to win in their final joust with whoever turns up in the opposite corner.
