Valerie Takes Treasurers’ Role

Congratulations are extended to Valerie Murphy daughter of Eddie and Mary Murphy Lecarrow, Charlestown who was appointed to the role of Treasurer of the Mayo County Board after being the sole nominee for the position at the Annual County Board Convention held in Belmullet recently.

This is a great honour for Valerie, her family and the Charlestown Sarsfields G.A.A. Club and she was proud to accept her seal of office so to speak and step into one of the most high profile and challenging roles on the county executive as she gets ready to bring her very own skills set and expertise to a job that brings many challenges and complexities.

Valerie takes on the reins armed with plenty of experience having served as Treasurer of the Sarsfields G.A.A.Club for the past seven years . She was terrific at  her job presenting very detailed and comprehensive end of year reports with every penny the club earned and spent accounted for in a very transparent and open manner.

Valerie brought great professionalism to the role with honesty and integrity very much to the forefront in the way she went about her business and executed her duties. She kept a tight rein on the club`s finances and forged a great relationship with her fellow officers and kept club members informed at all times of the state of the exchequer so to speak and what the club could and couldn’t afford when it came to spending money.

Valerie had a core group of people she leaned on for support when it came to the gate collections and other monetary tasks and this made her job easier as they were people of the utmost honesty and integrity with trust very much the key component when it came to the art of handling and putting money through the club accounts.

She really grew into the role as the years progressed and impressed  the club members with the way she conducted her business. Her recent set of accounts at the club AGM held a few short weeks ago were to be her last as she moved into a entirely different sphere in terms of workload, responsibility and public scrutiny. Valerie is a very capable lady well aware of the challenges that lie ahead of her as she steps into a role that has attracted a lot of negative headlines in recent times.

She is primed for the job however and will bring  intellect, common sense and above all a scrupulous sense of honesty to a position that will see her handling substantial amounts of money as the Mayo County Board are one of the most high profile and biggest spending boards of its kind in the country with six and seven figure sums flowing into and out of the accounts on an annual basis. Valerie got a rousing round of applause when her nomination was proposed and seconded and made a super speech of acceptance thanking her club for the support she had received and  stated she was honoured to take on such a prestigious role and promised to do her very best and give the job her total commitment.

It was a  red letter day for the Sarsfields brand  as she becomes the first member of the club to hold such an important and esteemed position on the county board executive and she takes with her the very best wishes of every rank and file club member and she has our total support and she sets to work on restoring some order and  respectability to a position that has attracted some murky and unedifying headlines in the last number of months.

Best of luck Valerie in all you do in your new position and we know your work will be characterised by diligence, conscientiousness and integrity with Charlestown Sarsfields loss most definitely the Mayo County Board’s gain.
