To continue with the theme of the club`s recent dinner dance which was a resounding success, there were a number of other awards handed out on the night to several most deserving recipients as the club and its various management teams honoured players they felt deserved special mention and singling out on the back of their heroics on the field of play in the green and white of the Sarsfields. The All Star Minor Player of the Year Award was presented to Sean Dunleavy. Sean was the epitome of solidness and consistency all through the season and seldom if ever played a bad game. He defended with vigilance and authority and was a rock in the half-back line and took no prisoners when it came to defending his station so to speak. This was award was due recognition for Sean and hopefully he will kick on and contend for a place on the senior team in the coming season.
The Ladies took centre stage thereafter and Chairperson of the ladies wing Richella O`Connor took the mic and gave a real tour de force covering all strands of the ladies club from underage to senior, paying tribute to a number of people on the administration and playing side while also acknowledging the support and assistance of Chairman Liam Breheny and the club executive who row in behind the ladies club in what they promote and offer in terms of games and competition. The ladies had a number of awards to hand out and players to honour and the following were the recipients at the various underage and senior grades. The Senior Ladies Player of the Year Award was presented to Jennifer O`Donnell to cap a great night for the O`Donnell Family as she emulated her brother Gareth who was the Senior Player of the Year award for the men. This was Jennifer`s second time to win the award so there must be some rivalry among the O`Donnell siblings as to who has the bragging rights but my money`s on Gareth so apologies Jennifer!!.The All Star Senior Player of the Year Award was presented to Leanne Duffy on the back of some stellar displays for the club at senior level where she played some sparkling football. The Minor Player of the Year award was presented to Hannah Morrisroe with Shona Mahon winning the All Star Minor Player of the Year Award . Both girls played some terrific football for the minor and senior teams all year and were worthy winners on the night. Leanne Duffy was also presented with a special award for representing Mayo at minor level with special guest Eoin Brosnan on hand to present the ladies with all the awards. That completed all the presentations on what another marvellous night for the club and its members with the music taking centre stage as people got up and bopped the night away to tunes from a vast array of decades to cater for the wide age span that was present on the night. Well done to DJ Jamie Hunt who had a super medley of music on his tapedeck with all eyes shifting towards 2020 with more of the same in terms of success very much hoped for as the club looks to emulate and build on the 2019 platform.
