A big win for Charlestown. Hard really to analyse critically as the game was just so one-sided. Everyone played really well, tackled ferociously, and displayed some really nice interplay especially in the forwards.
Only work-ons you could probably take from the game for Charlestown was some poor finishing, with several very kickable chances missed from right in front of goal. In spite of the scoreline, wides were well into the double digits, with most of those misses no further than 13 to 21 metres out from goal. This is something that cost them dearly in last year’s Championship semi-final so they will need to work on this over the next few weeks.
Apart from that, kickouts were a little sloppy, with no real movement, communication or strategy seemingly in place. Of the few kickouts Charlestown ended up having to take, they lost around 50% of them. Against better teams they will be punished.
Best for Charlestown, Chelsea Doherty was a ball of energy at midfield, with Cailín Durkan, Kellee Crean, and in the second half Nora McGovern creating a host of chances in the attacking third.
The team looks extremely fit, with strength and conditioning work over the last few weeks clearly standing to them, and lasted well in warm conditions.
Our Player of The Match:
Cailín Durkan. A very dominant display in the half forward line, won a mountain of dirty ball and linked play between forwards and backs really well.
