Charlestown Sarsfields made their exit their County Junior A Championship when they were comprehensively outpointed by Ardnaree in the final round of the group played in Ardnaree recently. The Sarsfields needed a win to retain any hope of qualifying for the latter stages of the competition but they were well and truly pummelled by an organised and motivated Ardnaree side who on the evidence of this powerful display must be short odds to finally end their series of near misses in the championship.
The Sarsfields hopes were dealt a body blow with defection of a number of players due to injury and unavailability and this robbed them of some crucial experience and craft and let them very much exposed to an Ardnaree side that were merciless in the way they went about dismantling the Sarsfield challenge. The game as a contest was over at half time as the home side tagged on a big score with the Sarsfields reduced to chasing shadows such was the total dominance exuded by the Ardnaree team.
The competition ended on a disappointing note for the Sarsfields with defeat at home to Ballintubber in the previous round scuppering their hopes of qualification for the quarter finals as they were left with the unenviable task of defeating group favourites Ardnaree on their home patch which proved nigh on impossible. The Sarsfields must now switch their focus to Division 1 D of the league and get a few more wins to secure their place in the division.
